Arrest over attack on female bus driver

A MAN who allegedly attacked a female bus driver when she didn't stop where he wanted was arrested yesterday on the charge of "picking a quarrel and stirring up trouble."

The suspect surnamed Shen was assessed to be suffering from depression and should bear limited criminal responsibility.

Driver Zhou Weiqin, 42, suffered a broken rib, damaged vertebrae and bruises in the assault on May 13. She is recovering at home.

Despite his depression, the 33-year-old suspect should still take criminal responsibility, Baoshan District prosecutors said.

If guilty, Shen could be jailed for up to five years.

"I was worried when the bus didn't halt at that stop, so I punched her without thinking too much about it," Shen allegedly told police.

Shen fled after the three-minute attack but officers located him on May 26.
