Arrests made as love triangle turns deadly
A MIDDLE-AGED couple have been arrested for allegedly killing the wife's lover, Minhang District prosecutors said yesterday.
Prosecutors said the couple stabbed the other man to death on October 2 and threw his body in a river.
Li Baoshan, an Anhui Province native, worked in a toy factory in Zhejiang Province and his wife, Lu Lixia, had a job in Shanghai.
Lu met Luo Tianming, also an Anhui Province native, five years ago on a long-distance bus when she took her two children to her hometown.
Luo, the bus driver, was attracted to Lu and invited her and the children to dinner.
More than a month later, Lu happened to be on Luo's bus again when she returned to Shanghai. After that trip the two started an affair.
Luo often asked Lu to divorce her husband and marry him, but she didn't want to leave him.
In October 2008, when Li came to visit his wife, he saw a message from Luo on her cell phone. Though Lu denied there was anything between them, Li tracked down Luo in February in Anhui, inquiring about the affair. But Luo didn't admit anything since he was sure Li didn't have any evidence.
Because he knew his wife was superstitious, Li told her that a fortune teller had told him she had been having an extramarital affair for years.
Lu confessed everything.
On October 2, Li followed his wife and found out that she was meeting Luo again.
Enraged, he told her that either she could help him kill Luo or divorce him without any rights to the children or the couple's property.
Not wanting to divorce Li, she arranged a meeting with Luo in a small wood.
But when Luo arrived, he was attacked by Li and stabbed, prosecutors said. Then, it is alleged, the couple threw the body in the river.
When the couple emerged from the wood, their nervous behavior attracted the attention of police assistants in the area and they were detained.
