Automatic laboratory system: a key to high efficiency

AUTOMATIC laboratory testing system is important to improve quality, accuracy and efficiency, local medical experts said on a meeting on clinical laboratory development.
Hospital’s laboratory conducts biochemical detection on data like liver function, blood fat and glucose level and immuno-detection like cancer bio-marks and hormone based on patients’ blood, urine and tissue samples. About 60 percent of medical decision is based on lab testing results.
However most labs in the nation still have poor automation level, which means many procedures are conducted by humans. The manual section can cost over 70 percent of total testing time and there are risks of biosafety during the procedure.
“Modern medicines greatly depend on lab results from diagnosis, treatment and follow-up monitoring,” said Dr Pan Baishen from Zhongshan Hospital. “Big hospitals deal with tens of thousands of samples every day, a highly automatic, informationized and grid management lab system is extremely important to ensure testing accuracy and efficiency.”
