Bachelor Day sees big run to marriage offices
As the date of 2011-11-11 contains more "1"s – the symbol of being single, this year's Happy Bachelor Day is creating a big fanfare across China and many Shanghai lovers took the plunge to tie the knot today, causing long queues outside marriage registry offices.
As of 9am today, 418 couples in Pudong District and 319 couples in Yangpu District have registered their marriage, Xinmin.cn reported today.
A bride at the Pudong Marriage Registry Office said they drove here at about 3am to wait for the opening of the office. "It's a very special day for us," she said.
Many marriage registry offices opened earlier this morning to cope with a surging number of applicants, the report said.
To reduce waiting time, office workers also prepared marriage certificates in advance for those who made their reservations online.
