Bag, watch, DVD? Police nab 'em
POLICE in Jing'an District confiscated thousands of fake luxury products from a residential area in South Shaanxi Road over the weekend, Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
When policemen broke into the eight-square-meter shop, it was full of customers with fake LV and Hermes bags on the shelf. If genuine they would have been worth over 10 million yuan (US$1.46 million), according to the report.
Policemen found more than 1,200 fake bags, 600 branded watches and 700 clothes in a dark room on the second floor of the shop. Police nabbed three suspects in the crackdown.
The head of the gang surnamed Li hired hundreds of people to look for customers along South Shaanxi Road and paid them 20 percent commission. Sometimes they even sold fake bags and accessories directly in front of the boutique shop.
Police are still investigating the case.
