BEIJING will hold a costume parade around the Expo 2010 site from May 4 to 8 during Beijing Week, a senior Expo organizer said today.

Around 200 actors will dress in different styles of clothes that can be seen at 16 famous venues, including the Forbidden City and the Beijing National Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest, aid Xu Yuwei, vice chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Beijing Sub-Council.

They will parade around the Pudong side of the Expo site, Xu said.

The 600-square-meter pavilion in the joint-provincial building will showcase both the city's historic heritage and modern development with the theme of "Charming Capital."

An opening ceremony for the Beijing Week will be held in front of the joint provincial pavilion on May 4, which will be "as exciting as the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics," he said.

Many Beijing craftsmen will also perform folk arts including paper-cutting and clay sculpture during the week.

Beijing is the last among all the provinces and municipalities to unveil an Expo exhibition plan.
