Big agricultural wholesale mart to open

SHANGHAI'S biggest wholesale agricultural product market will open tomorrow in suburban Qingpu District after five years of construction work and trial runs.

The market will sell fresher, cheaper and international food products.

The Shanghai Xijiao International Agricultural Product Trade Center, located in 3833 Huaxu Highway in Huaxin Town, covers 110.5 hectares, the size of about 150 football fields, including a wholesale trade zone, an exhibition and direct-sale zone and an inspection service zone.

The center is run by Shanghai-based Bright Food (Group) Co Ltd. It will provide tens of thousands of agricultural products from vegetables, fruits, meat, aquatic products, frozen food, dried food, grain and oil, wines, flowers and other imported agricultural food from the world.

"To put it simply, residents will be able to buy both regular and rarely seen agricultural products in the center," Zhang Xiaoling, vice general manager of the center told xinmin.cn.

The center is 22 kilometers away from People's Square downtown and about 90 minutes drive from neighboring cities like Hangzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nantong and Jiaxing.
