Biker crushed by van at crossroad, daughter injured

A Shanghai man was killed when his electric bike was hit by a van on Jinxiu Road in Pudong yesterday afternoon. His daughter sitting in the backseat was also injured in the accident.
The tragedy happened at the crossroad of Jinxiu Road and Yuqiao Road around 4pm when either the man or the van was trying to run the red light and the van failed to brake in time, initial investigation showed.
The man was overrun by the van and died instantly. His seven-year-old daughter was rushed to the hospital immediately and is now in safe condition.
A traffic assistant at the accident site said the crossroad was newly built and there are no surveillance cameras yet.
Police are still investigating the accident.
