Black taxi haunts are published
A LIST of more than 100 places downtown where illegal taxi services tout for business has been issued by traffic watchdogs.
Business and tourism areas, such as Nanjing Road, the Bund, People's Square and Fuzhou Road, are included in the city traffic law enforcement team warning list.
Office buildings in the Pudong New Area and railway stations are also spots near where illegal car and motorcycle taxi services are likely to congregate.
The watchdog said it is joining forces with traffic police to crack down on these services but admit it's difficult to collect proof as "passengers try to avoid trouble."
Meanwhile, city licensed taxi drivers say they fear the illegal taxi business will get a boost when taxi fares are expected to be raised this month.
Traffic officers and police began a crackdown last week in Huangpu District.
