Blacklist for prepaid card malpractice

TWENTY firms in Shanghai have been named and shamed for malpractice in managing their prepaid cards schemes.

Shanghai Prepaid Card Association yesterday announced the names to alert consumers of potential risks. Croissants de France Co, which runs bakeries in Shanghai, was on the blacklist for not having registered as required.

Christine International Holdings, another bakery, was included on the list due to a large amount of consumer complaints over difficulties in using cards because of outlets being closed.

Others on the list included food firms YPX Co and Shanghai Tingtop Food Co, and cosmetics company Shanghai Arsoa Co.

“We make public the names of these companies to remind consumers of potential risks,” said Fan Lingen, executive vice chairman of the association. “These companies are not necessarily involved in bad business, but they have certain malpractices in issuing or managing cards.”

Consumers are advised to use up the cash on their cards as quickly as possible and to be careful what cards they buy.
