Blast destroys steelworks
A STEELWORKS in Jiading District caught fire this morning, which later spread to another two workshops nearby. No one was injured.
Officials said the fire was started by a blast caused by a molten steel leak during the course of production.
The boss of the wrecked Shanghai Qizhi Metalwork Co Ltd, who had been in Fujian Province for tomb sweeping, was rushing back to Shanghai to handle the aftermath.
The fire was reported at 5:45am this morning in the industrial zone at 4290 Huyi Road near Shengxin Road, said Jiading District police.
Flames soon spread to the packing factory and warehouse nearby. The total burnt area was estimated to be 3,000 square meters, police said.
Firemen managed to put out the fire about 7:30am with the help of 20 fire engines.
