Bogus Bank Sites Warning

THE local banking regulator yesterday warned residents to be on the lookout for bogus bank websites claiming to take applications for credit cards.
The Shanghai Bureau of the China Banking Regulatory Commission said the sites would ask applicants to open an account with them and deposit cash there. Then the online fraudsters would empty the account. The bureau said the scammers used telecom technology to make their telephone numbers seem like genuine bank numbers.
