Bogus airline websites closed down
LOCAL industrial and commercial authorities have closed down eight websites which closely copied the official website of Spring Airlines in order to dupe customers, officials said yesterday. The websites sold fake tickets and took part in telephone fraud.
The Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau said the websites usually had a decent-looking address, and their layout was almost the same as the real one, so consumers could easily be tricked.
For example, the website www.sha-air.cn was an almost exact copy of Spring Airline's official website, and also displayed a customer service hotline on the front page. When -consumers booked tickets on the website, the swindlers would ask them to remit money to an account - consumers would never -receive their tickets.
Officials said that all the copycats had been shut down, and the swindlers had been handed over to the police.
