Bomb threat shuts Jiading mall for hours
A newly opened shopping mall in Shanghai's Jiading District suffered a false bomb alarm yesterday, forcing about 1,000 customers and shop staff to evacuate, but no bomb was found in the premises.
A witness surnamed Shi told the local news website, xinmin.cn, that the Nanxiang GMS Shopping Mall reopened yesterday morning after refurbishing and enjoyed good volume of visitors.
At about 5pm, all the staff and customers were told to evacuate immediately due to certain "emergency." Later they learned that an anonymous caller said there was a bomb in the mall.
About 1,000 customers fled the building within ten minutes. Police came and spent three hours to search for explosives but found nothing, Xinmin reported.
The mall was closed during the search and police are now tracking down the caller.
