Bomb warning scare for driver
BOMB disposal experts cordoned off a downtown street in Baoshan District yesterday.
A car owner had fled his car and alerted the police after he got a warning call on his mobile saying that explosives had been planted on his car.
But nothing was found and the driver, surnamed Wang, is now helping police with their enquiries into who might have made the call.
Police said they had not ruled out the possibility that the incident could be related to a blackmail scam.
"The call could be a hoax or threat but no matter what the purpose was, whoever did this will be severely punished," said a police officer surnamed Zeng.
Wang told police he didn't recognize the caller's voice. The call came when he was driving on an elevated road near Changzhong Road. He then parked at a bus stop and called the police.
