Boy, 11, falls to death at apartment
AN 11-year-old boy fell from his apartment building and died early yesterday, said the Pudong New Area police.
The fall apparently happened around 1am when a huge sound was heard by residents in the neighborhood, but it was not confirmed until 4am when the boy's body was found by a milk delivery worker, police said.
District police said the boy surnamed Wang fell from the window of a stairway between the 13th and 14th floors.
The cause of the fall was under investigation, but neighbors suggested the possibility that school pressure got to the boy, who was in the fifth grade of primary school.
"He always played alone and talked like an adult," said a resident surnamed Zhang. "I liked to chat with him but I hardly saw him playing during the summer holiday. Maybe his parents put too much pressure on him."
Wang studied in a famous primary school in Xuhui District, according to his neighbors.
Both of his parents are doctors.
Police think the boy stepped onto a dust bin in the stairway to reach the window.
