Boy, 4, survives 14-story tumble
A JAPANESE boy, 4, had a miraculous escape from death when he fell 14 floors in Shanghai but is still in a serious condition in hospital.
The boy would stay in intensive care for at least seven days, doctors from Shanghai Children's Hospital told his parents yesterday.
"We hope he can get through it," said the boy's father, looking tired and heartbroken.
The father declined to reveal his name.
The boy had undergone emergency surgery and suffered injuries to his head, chest and buttocks, a hospital spokesman said.
He was rushed to the hospital by a driver after the parents asked for assistance in a residential complex in Changning District about 8:15pm on Tuesday.
A security guard, surnamed Chen, helped the couple find a passer-by who agreed to drive the boy to hospital.
"He suddenly ran out after I scolded him for something trifling," the father said in an interview yesterday with Xinmin Evening News.
Chen said the thick greenery and several tall trees might have broken the boy's fall and saved his life.
