Boy missing for days after running away from home

A mother and father are anxiously looking for their 12-year-old son, who left home after he was scolded for not doing his homework and has been missing since Monday.

Peng Yijian, a grade seven student at Shanghai Longyuan Middle School in Xuhui District, left home on Binnan Road on Monday around noon. Peng’s mother, surnamed Liu, told Shanghai Daily that his teacher called her and told her to pick up her son because he did not finish his homework.

Liu said Peng was in tears when she arrived at school. She took him home and criticized him fiercely. The boy suddenly ran out of their home at 12:15pm on Monday. Liu said she chased after him, but road surveillance camera footage showed she went in the wrong direction.

Peng was wearing a dark blue school uniform at the time. Liu said he only had 10 yuan (US$1.61) with him. He was said to have appeared in a clothing shop at Shanghai South Railway Station at 1pm on Monday.

Police are still looking for the boy. Those who have clues can contact Peng’s parents at either 18116266306 or 18021008495.

The family is from Shanxi Province and has lived in Shanghai since 2003. Liu said her son ran away from home a few years ago after he was criticized for doing poorly at school. Police found him the next morning.
