Brides book out banquets on lucky day
COUPLES in the city hoping for "the perfect 10" have booked out all wedding banquets in Shanghai for October 10, 2010, a wedding industry insider told Shanghai Morning Post today.
Many couples booked wedding feasts at hotels and restaurants two years ahead of the lucky date, the newspaper said.
But they can't officially get married on that day because it falls on a Sunday – and Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said marriage officials had no plans to work overtime.
The biggest marriage registration peak hit the city on September 9 last year, in hope that the number representing true love would bring a long-lasting marriage.
On August 8, 2008, 7,190 couples registered for marriage in Shanghai, the highest daily number since 1949.
