Bridge collapses under heavy truck in Pudong

A bridge in Shanghai's Pudong New Area collapsed under the weight of a heavily loaded truck this morning, causing traffic congestion in the area.
The truck was carrying 36 steel pipes and weighed around 80 tons when it was passing the bridge near Shenkang Road at 4:04am. The bridge was designed for vehicles only under 15 tons.
The steel bridge buckled under the truck, which got stuck with its head lifted mid-air and its tail in the water. No one was hurt in the accident.
The closure of the bridge forced people to make detours. Repair work is under way, Zhoupu Township officials said.
Police have led away the truck driver for questioning.
