Bunnies for kids
A local designer outlet yesterday launched a program to auction its rabbit-shaped chairs created by artists to raise money for schools in remote areas.
The Yi Ou Lai Shanghai Village, a shopping complex near the Shanghai Disney Resort in Pudong, is exhibiting more than 1,000 such chairs named Qeeboo rabbit, designed by Italian Stefano Giovannoni.
More than 10 Chinese artists, including famous painters Li Shoubai and Niu An, were invited to paint various patterns on 100 of the rabbits in white, which were donated to the charity group Adream, to support child education, the company said yesterday.
A first round of open auction on the rabbits held by the non-profit group has raised more than 1.1 million yuan (US$160,000), said Niu Xiao, a spokeswoman for Adream which aims to help poor children receive better education.
The funds will be used to establish multimedia classrooms named Dream Center across China to allow children to experience cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printers to enlighten their creativity and imagination, Niu Xiao said.
