Bus travelers to be added to security list
Bus passengers may face safety checks similar to those in place at Metro stations during the six-month World Expo, according to a new draft regulation.
Operators of public transport would send security staff to airports, railway stations, Metro stations, ports and bus stations to check on passengers, the draft says.
Couriers should check whether the goods their customers want to deliver are allowed. Senders will be required to show ID cards if they want to send articles into the Expo site, according to the regulation.
"We will comply with the new rules to have our goods strictly checked, but I don't think the new rules will delay our work," said Tony Zhou, a spokesman for FedEx Express in Shanghai.
The city government is soliciting public opinion on security regulations concerning transport and underground space management.
According to the regulation, every vehicle will have to stop for security checks when entering underground parking lots. Underground businesses such as inns and entertainment venues which do not meet fire control standards or had no easy means of escape will be shut.
The Shanghai Administration of Work Safety said vehicles carrying dangerous chemical substances should have special passes.
Before entering Shanghai, every vehicle carrying dangerous chemicals from other parts of the country should be checked.
Road transportation of flammable and explosive chemicals will be banned between 10am and 4pm from June 15 to October 15.
In addition, dangerous chemicals, including toxic and explosive ones, will not be allowed within a 500-meter range around the Expo site, the administration said.
The city's work safety authorities also urged petrol companies to finish installing explosive-proof barrier devices in gas stations within the Outer Ring Road by the end of this month.
