Buses to get plainclothes officers; police also beef up security at stations
Shanghai police will add plainclothes officers onto the city's public buses to ensure operational safety, the department announced today.
Armed police and police dogs will also be present at public bus terminal stations and main transport hubs around the city to detect forbidden luggage containing flammable or explosive items.
The plainclothes police officers will randomly get onto buses and hold inspections, said Song Youguo, vice captain of the Shanghai Metro and Public Bus Security Team.
Meanwhile, security check areas have been added to the arrival tunnels of ten long-distance bus terminals. Until now, luggage security checks were held only among passengers leaving Shanghai from the terminals. The new measures will assure that no forbidden items arrive in Shanghai from other cities and provinces.
