Buy ahead for big days
BOOK ahead if you're planning to visit the 2010 Shanghai World Expo during national holidays and peak periods.
To limit visitors to 600,000 on most busy days, only prepaid tickets will be sold on those occasions, at 200 yuan (US$29.30) each, the Shanghai World Expo organizer announced yesterday.
Seventeen days are expected to be especially crowded, including the May Day and National Day holidays and the last week of Expo (October 25 to 31).
Tickets for these days won't be available at the gate - visitors will have to book in advance.
The organizer plans to sell 400,000 tickets for the opening day on May 1, and more than two-thirds have been snapped up, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
Tickets will be limited to 500,000 a day on May 2 and 3 as well as the first three days of October. A maximum of 600,000 tickets will be sold for other peak days.
The organizer expects 400,000 people to visit the Expo every day on average.
Restaurants, toilets and other facilities at the Expo site will be able to serve at most 600,000 people every day, Chen said.
