Cables, Wires Called Unsafe

ABOUT 30 percent of household cables and wires are unsafe, officials said yesterday. The Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau said some wires, such as a Baiyulan PVC wire, lack adequate insulation, which makes them susceptible to catching fire. Others, such as one by Shenjiang, have weak sheaths, increasing the risk of electric shock, officials said.
