Car hits officer

SONGJIANG District police are searching for a driver who drove into a traffic officer during a routine check for drunk driving last night. The officer, named by a Shanghai TV station reporter as 39-year-old Qian Yong, was seriously injured, suffering multiple fractures to his skull, ribs and shoulder.
In the early hours of this morning, he was reported to be in a critical condition in hospital. The incident took place at about 11pm on Yongfeng Road while police were conducting regular checks for drunk driving. The driver fled the scene in his vehicle afterwards. Police said it is unclear whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
