Car plate auctioneers fail to pay government 2.78m yuan

THE auction house handling the city's monthly car license plate auction had failed to give the government 2.78 million yuan (US$407,000) in interest over auctions last year, the city's chief auditor said.

Song Yijia, Shanghai Audit Bureau's director, yesterday briefed the bureau's 2008 government fiscal audit report, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Shanghai International Commodity Auction Co Ltd didn't turn over the 2.78 million yuan of interest to the city government, the report said.

Shanghai was good at implementing last year's government budgets as approved by the city's lawmakers but there were some problems, Song said in the annual report.

Auditors found 84.97 million yuan was misappropriated and 1.11 billion yuan was badly managed, involving areas such as pensions, charity donations and government spending.
