Caravaggio works to be shown at Italy Pavilion

TWO masterpieces by Renaissance painter Caravaggio will be brought to China for the first time and displayed at the Italian Pavilion during the World Expo, organizers said yesterday.

Along with the paintings "Basket of fruit" and "Boy with a basket of fruit," craftsmen making shoes, clothes, jewelry and violin will show off their special skills at a workshop inside the pavilion, said Maria Assunta Accili, secretary general of Italy for 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

Accili said the pavilion's construction is near its end and the schedule for entertainment and performances will be released at the end of next month.

Visitors will be able to see the latest model of a Ferrari hybrid car and a rare Isotta Fraschini, the most luxurious collector car ever made. Fashion shows from top Italian brands will be a regular feature, Accili said.
