Center sets up hotline for 'missing' jackpot winner

As the June 30 deadline nears, authorities are desperate to find the lottery ticket holder who won 7.05 million yuan (US$1.13million).

The Shanghai Welfare Lottery Center said yesterday that it opened a 24-hour emergency hotline 13916743987 for the winner to claim the jackpot. The winning ticket was sold on May 2 on Yanji Road M. in Yangpu District.

But more than a month has passed and the winner has yet to claim the prize despite several reminders in the media.

"We expect the winner to claim the money and we will wait for the person until the very last," said Wang Yulin, an official with the center.

A prize must be claimed within 60 days of the winning number being drawn, or else it is given to a social welfare fund if it goes unclaimed.

The winner can cash the winning ticket at 321 Sichuan Road M.

If no one shows up to claim the lottery, it would be the first time since 2011 that a winner of more than 5 million yuan had failed to collect the cash in Shanghai, Wang said.

Three second prizes also remain unclaimed.
