Chaotic end to website promotion

A PROMOTION by online shopping website 360Buy on Saturday ended in chaos after the site's server was overwhelmed as customers clamored to place orders.
The site offered a 50 percent discount on books and musical and video products on each order of at least 100 yuan (US$15), between 8am and midnight.
However, the site's server was unable to cope with any more orders after 11pm.
Some customers found a "server is busy" notice when they tried to place orders.
"One third of orders are still waiting to be delivered. The problem is that the server is running slow and some books are out of stock," Chairman and CEO Liu Qiangdong wrote on his microblog on weibo.com yesterday.
"Some of my books on my order was 'out of stock' today and I hope they can be delivered on time," said a Shanghai office worker surnamed Lu.
