Charity run kicks off despite downpour
ABOUT 5,000 employees of well-known enterprises in Shanghai took part in a charity run organized by China International Intellectech Corporation today at the Shanghai Century Park in Pudong New Area despite of the downpour.
The annual event, the 12th of its kind, was held not only for the increasing popularity of running, but also for building a positive workplace environment with communication, health and charity.
Wang Liqin, former Olympic champion of table tennis, also showed up as one of the pace makers, along with executives of enterprises, such as Volvo, Intel, SMG and Mitsubishi.
In this way, the event also provided an opportunity for the white-collar workers to get closer to their bosses and celebrities.
Each runner could get 20 yuan from China International Intellectech Corporation and donate to the charity programs on the site.
The event also included an online competition carried out on a popular smartphone application called Joyrun, which enables teams to compete with each other with total running length of team members. More than 10,000 kilometers have been contributed by all teams between May 22 and June 1.
