China's ocean research vessel returns to Shanghai

CHINA'S first privately funded ocean research vessel "Zhang Jian" returned to Shanghai today after its official maiden voyage to the New Britain Trench in the Pacific Ocean.
The ship, which carried 16 scientists from Tongji University, Shanghai Ocean University and Chinese Academy of Sciences, tested oceangoing function of the vessel itself and scientific equipment it carries in the 73-day voyage, said Wu Xin, chairman of Shanghai Rainbow Fish Ocean Technology Co, the ship operation company.
