Chinese beauties sought for Miss Universe contest

THE first Miss Universe China pageant will be held July 8 to July 10 in Shanghai. Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 27, able to speak basic English and at least 1.68 meters tall, can apply for the contest.
But the event organizer said the candidates must not have had any plastic surgery, never have been married or given birth to a child. Application must be made before June 15 at www.missuniversechina.com.
The winner of the competition will represent China to compete at the 60th Miss Universe Pageant to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on September 12.
Selected contestants will receive some training and enjoy a variety of benefits such as scholarships, cosmetics and jewelry.
If Miss China emerges as the top winner at the Miss Universe contest in Brazil, she will be hired full time by the Miss Universe Organization and work as the "ambassador" for China, based in New York City.
There has never been a Chinese winner at the Miss Universe contest since China began to participate in the world's most watched beauty pageant in 2002.
