Cities' culture is forum topic

CULTURE heritage and urban regeneration are on the agenda next weekend in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, at the second Expo theme forum.

Six panel forums will tackle the topic at the Suzhou Taihu International Convention Center on June 12-13.

More than 60 experts from 20 countries and regions will discuss the challenges and opportunities of culture heritage amid urban development, a situation that many cities are now facing.

Some experts will share their experiences in cultural protection and heritage.

Suzhou is a city with more than 2,500 years of history. Its pavilion in Urban Best Practices Area is the only selected Chinese city case for "historical heritage protection and use." It has nine classic gardens on the World Cultural Heritage List as well as some non-material cultural heritage, such as the Kungqu opera.

Chen Rong, spokeswoman for the Suzhou People's Government, said the city can help enlighten people on culture heritage protection and development.

Six Expo theme forums are scheduled in all. The other theme forums will start successively in Wuxi and Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, and Shaoxing and Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province.
