City: Prove Escalators Safe

THE Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision has told Xizi Otis Elevator Co to provide technical material and quality certificates to prove that an escalator model is safe.
After a fatal accident hit an escalator in Beijing in July in which a boy was killed, 22 escalators of the same model in Shanghai were stopped. They are back in operation but on "temporary" status until Otis provides the certificates.
