City botanical garden inviting visitors to plant own tulips for public display

THE Shanghai Botanical Garden will host tulip planting events over the weekend and the tulips planted by visitors will be displayed at the Shanghai International Flower Show next year.

The compost used in planting is made of green wastes including dead tree branches, fallen leaves and straws.

A large amount of dead tree branches and fallen leaves are generated at the park every year and turning them into compost is one of the most effective ways of recycling, garden operator said.

The planting event between 9:30am and 3:30pm on Saturday and Sunday open free to visitors.

People can also visit compost site and attend gardening lectures during the events.

The planting site is a major exhibition area of the 2016 Shanghai International Flower Show to be held in spring. There will be a tulip flower sea at that time, the garden said.

The planting events will also be held at the garden next weekend.
