City helps train 39,800 young people
A 2008 SHANGHAI government program offered 39,800 positions training young people in electronics, accounting, machine and electric maintenance, administration and sales, Xinmin.cn reported today.
It was part of a professional probationary youth training program launched in 2002. The government provides subsidies for both the trainees and the companies which provide the work positions.
Trainees receive a subsidy equivalent to 60 percent of the average lowest salary of the year together with insurance from the government. There are no contracts between the trainees and the companies.
A total of 1,900 companies in the city offered the probationary positions in 2008 and 28 percent of the trainees were college graduates or with higher educational qualifications.
The program for 2009 will be announced in March.
