City hospital seeks healthy adults to donate excrements to help treat children with microbiome problems

A local hospital is seeking volunteers among healthy adults to help sick children with microbiome-related conditions by donating their excrements to be used for fecal microbial transplantations.

And the donations also come with rewards as promised by Shanghai Children’s Hospital, which launched the project.

A qualified donor needs to be aged between 18 and 40 and preferably have defecation once or twice regularly each day. Applicants would be arranged for free tests on hepatitis A, B and C, HIV and syphilis as well as on parasites and bacteria to ensure they are safe donors for the project. After passing these tests, the donors are required to take their excrement samples to the hospital within two hours.

Ten to 15 donations would be needed within a month to keep the project running successfully. The hospital would pay each donor 200 yuan in reward.

Those interested to donate could contact Dr Pan at the hospital by calling 18049959279 from 3pm to 5pm between Monday and Friday.
