City passes law on intangible cultural heritage protection

THE city's law on intangible cultural heritage protection has been passed and will be put into practice starting May 1, officials said on Tuesday.

The law will encourage more enterprises, groups and individuals of the whole society to get engaged in the protection.

Valuable sequences of the cultures and arts will be videotaped and conserved in a database. Classes and curriculums of some items will be widely promoted to many local primary and middle schools.

"We will set up a citywide evaluation system to regularly monitor and recognize the efforts of inheritance," said Wang Xiaoming, deputy director of Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV.

"Professional training will be provided for relevant workers in this field."
