City pushing energy-efficient vehicles into public use

The Shanghai government is pushing "green" vehicles into areas of public transportation, sanitation, logistics and for official use under the central government's latest plan to fight against pollution.

No less than 30 percent of the cars purchased for the above areas will be new-energy cars, as the city plans to put 13,000 green vehicles into use by the end of next year, the Shanghai Transport Commission said Tuesday.

New-energy vehicles include electric, plug-in hybrids, fuel-cell and solar-powered models. To promote purchase of these vehicles, apart from financial subsidies, 1,800 charging spots will be installed around Shanghai by the end of the year, with another 2,400 ready for use by the end of next year, according to the latest timetable.

District-level governments have detailed their plans for promotion of green cars.

Minhang District is already giving 20,000 yuan as an extra subsidy to private new-energy car buyers. More than 700 green cars have been purchased for private use within the region, according to the Minhang government.

Jiading District will give 15,000-yuan subsidies to green car purchasers. The district already owns 1,000 charging spots and four power stations.
