City seeks opinions on home rentals
SHANGHAI is seeking public opinions as it drafts a proposal to guide home rentals in the city.
Home owners will not be allowed to raise rents if leases are signed for one year or less and only one increase is allowed per year if such contracts are longer than 12 months, the Shanghai Municipal Housing Support and Building Administration Bureau said yesterday in a proposal on its website.
Meanwhile, a maximum one-month deposit will be allowed under contracts lasting one year or less while a two-month deposit can be charged if the contract lasts longer than one year, the proposal said.
Home owners should also inform their tenants one month in advance of the lease's expiration if they don't want to renew the contract.
The government is also working to crack down on group renting.
