Cleaner Yangtze water reaches more people today
MORE Shanghai residents started to enjoy cleaner tap water today when a Pudong water plant switched its water source from the Huangpu River to the Qingcaosha Reservoir in the Yangtze River this morning.
Linjiang Water Plant, the biggest waterworks in the Pudong New Area, serves more than 850,000 residents in Sanlin, Beicai, Zhoujiadu, Nanmatou and Pujiang areas, according to the Shanghai Water Authority.
The Qingcaosha Water Reservoir is now pumping 3.3 million cubic meters of water per day to the homes of 6.6 million people across the city.
Officials said that about 10.6 kilometers of water pipes had been renovated before the source switch.
Next month, Lingqiao Water Plant in the Gaoqiao area of Pudong will also take water from Qingcaosha and in June, the city's largest Changqiao Water Plant in Xuhui District will join the network. By then, about 10 million residents should be enjoying the cleaner water from the Yangtze River.
