Collectors line up for Expo stamps

A SET of World Expo stamps went on sale across the city this morning, with many stamp collectors queuing outside post offices overnight.

The set of five stamps depicting the Expo Center, China Pavilion, Performance Center, Theme Pavilion and Expo Boulevard, has been released across China and will be on sale at designated post offices.

Today's release was the third series of Expo stamps offered by China Post, and the last will be issued just before the Expo opens on May 1.

Hu Shiyun, the spokesman of Shanghai Post Co, said the first buyer was an 80-year-old man who came to queue about 8pm last night, and more than 100 philatelists also joined him outside the Shanghai Post Museum in Hongkou District.

Along with the stamps, Shanghai Post also offers Expo-themed commemorative envelopes and postmarks. Citizens could postmark the envelopes themselves at 78 post offices across the city.

The first batch of Expo stamps and envelopes sold out before 11am today at the post office near the museum.
