Comedian in hospital after brain hemorrhage
ONE of China's best-known comedians Zhao Benshan is recovering in a Shanghai hospital today after a stroke.
Nanhui Central Hospital confirmed that Zhao, 51, famous for acting and directing sitcoms Liu Laogen and Ma Dashuai, was admitted about 1am today.
A preliminary brain scan confirmed bleeding in the brain, and he was transferred to Huashan Hospital for further examination and tests.
Huang Fengpin, head of Nanhui Central Hospital, said stress and overwork might have caused Zhao's subarachnoid hemorrhage.
The comedian has been busy filming a new series after finishing a business course in the United States.
However, he's been fully alert mentally since he was hospitalized, which is a good sign for a brain hemorrhage patient, according to a Nanhui hospital staff member who refused to be identified.
Zhao's manager said he had no further details but confirmed that Zhao was in Shanghai for a new TV series.
