Company probed for unweight silk quilts
SHANGHAI quality inspection agency said it is investigating a local company after the Beijing Consumer Association said a silk quilt sample provided by the company contained much less filler than marked on the label.
A 100% pure silk quilt made by Shanghai Home Textile Co was found to contain 36.4 percent less silk filler than indicated on the label, the association said.
The Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said some of the company's silk quilts failed quality tests last year as their fiber content fell short of the requirement. These products were confiscated and the company was fined 89,893 yuan (US$14,498).
The Beijing association tested 40 samples from the company and found 19 were substandard. Some contained less silk than marked or used polyester fiber.
