Construction site accident kills 3
THREE people were killed and four others critically injured at a construction site in the Pudong New Area when an unfinished factory building collapsed yesterday, government officials said.
Those responsible for supervising construction work have been detained for questioning, officials said.
The injured were still in hospital for treatment, officials added.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The collapse happened at 5:10pm in Pudong's Lingang area, close to the city's coast.
The factory is believed to belong to SAIC Motor Corp, one of China's largest vehicle makers.
Witnesses said a crane was hoisting girders that fell off and hit the structure, leading to its collapse.
