Convenience store in Metro station closed after rat scare

A FAMILYMART convenience store in West Nanjing Road station of Metro Line 2 closed for rectification on Wednesday and all food in the store will be destroyed after an online post showing a rat on boxes of pre-made food in the store's fridge the previous night.
A netizen, identified as "Liyudai", posted the pictures online, claiming she took the photos in the store at about 7:30pm when she was to buy some drink on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, the reporter found the store closed, with a note saying "internal rectification" posted on the door. Almost all shelves have been emptied.
Officials with local market supervision authority and pest control inspected the store on Wednesday morning.
Officials with the market supervision authority ordered the store to destroy the contaminated food, and the Patriotic Health Campaign Committee Office instructed the FamilyMart’s staffers to disinfect the store and prevent rats or other pests. The authorities will also tighten supervision on the store to ensure the company to carry out its work.
According to a statement from FamilyMart, the company launched internal rectification immediately when it was informed of the incident from Tuesday night. It added the store has suspended operation, and food in the store have been removed and will be destroyed.
It will add rat proof ceilings in the store and strengthen protection for wires and pipes The store will resume operation after the reconstruction.
The city's Metro operator told Shanghai Daily that it hires a professional company to exterminate rats or pests in the Metro network regularly.
Nanjing Road W. Station is one of the busiest metro stations in the city, connecting Line 2, 12 and 13.
