Crackdown on obscene activities intensified
ABOUT 1,800 venues and 60 Websites have been raided or closed for obscene activities this year, Shanghai police said yesterday.
The venues were mainly small hair salons and foot massage parlors. Police said they had handled about 2,000 obscene cases. On Wednesday night, more than 60 people were caught and punished when police raided 14 foot massage parlors on Qingzhen Road in downtown Xuhui District. Secret rooms for prostitution service were found during the raid.
The police said the campaign would last about two weeks. Patrol and check will become a routine practice and the punished venues will be monitored.
Police said five people were caught on May 30 for alleged prostitution in a club on Nandan Road E. and another 15 were caught in a club on Kangding Road last month for obscene performances.
Entertainment venues will be revoked of their business license once obscene activities are found, police said.
