Crashes killed 50 kids
MORE than 50 children were killed in car accidents in Shanghai in the first 11 months of last year, according to a report yesterday from Shanghai traffic police, prompting legislation to combat the problem.
It said 151 car accidents involved child victims, killing 54 and injuring 102. The figures have alarmed local legislators, and some have teamed to draft a bill to amend the local traffic regulation to prioritize protection of children.
Legislators are mulling a law requiring drivers to slow down when passing schools and kindergartens, with heavy fines for violators.
