Dad and young son die in Songjiang fire

A FATHER and his young son were killed and his wife and another family member injured at 3 this morning in a fire at an apartment above a logistics company in Jiuting town in the city’s Songjiang District.
A 40-year-old man surnamed Song and his 8-year-old son died, while his wife was badly injured and is receiving treatment in a hospital along with another injured relative.
A man surnamed Tao, the husband of Song's niece, tried to use the nearest fire hydrant after being awakened by neighbors' screaming, but he got no water.
The two families lived together on the second floor of the building while the first floor was the location of the business.
Tao finally got water from the hydrant, but it was 10 meters away on the opposite side of the road.
The fire was extinguished and is under investigation.
